Pro-life Christian Dad of 11 Escapes Prison for Protesting Abortion
(ChristianCountry.com) – During his sentence last week, a devoted Christian father of eleven children escaped jail time for breaking a federal rule that forbade obstructing access to Nashville, Tennessee, abortion facilities.
In connection with his January conviction by a federal jury on counts of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act and participating in a conspiracy against rights in 2021, Paul Vaughn was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger to three years of supervised release.
Vaughn was one of the initial 11 defendants charged in October 2022 with obstructing the Carafem Health Center Clinic entrance on March 15, 2021, in the Mt. Juliet neighborhood of Nashville.
The FACE Act charged seven of the eleven defendants with conspiracy. In contrast, the other defendants were accused of misdemeanors punishable by up to a year in jail and a $10,000 fine.
Pro-life Christian dad of 11 escapes prison sentence for protesting abortion: 'Spiritual battle' https://t.co/3SVbggL62Z

During an early-morning raid at his residence, the FBI detained Vaughn in front of his family on October 3, 2022, following his indictment by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
Vaughn has mentioned that his kids have been having nightmares ever since the raid, and he stated he would have been ready to “come down at any time” to talk to federal agents about his allegations.
Despite acknowledging that their protest was non-violent and did not cause any harm to anyone, Trauger said during Vaughn’s sentencing hearing on Tuesday that he and the others had been “imposing their religious beliefs on other people,” according to The Daily Wire.
The judge also recognized that Vaughn’s acts stemmed from his strong religious convictions and considered him a respected member of his community and a veteran of the United States Navy.
Vaughn declared that he would file an appeal, praising God for the sentence and portraying it as a fight in a more significant spiritual conflict.
“We rejoice in God’s plans,” Vaughn said. “Because this is at the heart a spiritual battle, we are thankful to have a strong advocate in the Thomas More Society. They are experts at law and deeply understand the spiritual battle raging across our land.”
“We must stand and fight for what is right, we cannot bow down to the lie,” he said. “Laws have to be grounded in truth, they have to align with the ultimate lawgiver, who is Christ our Lord. The false narratives plaguing our nation will fall when we stand up to them.”
The Clinton-era FACE Act, which has been used to prosecute numerous pro-life protestors throughout the Biden administration, was described by Vaughn as an “unlawful use of the law.”
He expressed optimism that it would be overturned.
Recently, both houses of Congress have expressed doubts about the constitutionality of the FACE Act, and legislation to repeal it has been introduced.
While applauding that Vaughn would not go to jail, the nonprofit religious liberty law firm Thomas More Society, which assisted in his representation, nonetheless voiced annoyance that he was receiving any punishment.
“We are pleased the judge has shown leniency to Paul at today’s sentencing hearing, and I know Paul is incredibly thankful to be able to celebrate Independence Day with his family. But it remains the case that his conviction is a deep injustice,” Thomas More Society senior counsel Steve Crampton said in a statement.
Crampton also pointed out the irony that Vaughn’s hearing was held on July 2, when the Continental Congress formally adopted the resolution announcing America’s freedom in 1776.
“On the anniversary of our nation’s charter declaring such rights ‘inalienable,’ Paul Vaughn and his co-defendants stand convicted of defending the inalienable right to life,” Crampton said.
“The weaponized and evidence-free charges brought here by the Biden Department of Justice against peaceful pro-lifers should have never been filed.”
According to The Daily Wire, more than a hundred of Vaughn’s fans gathered outside the federal court on Tuesday before his sentence to pray and sing songs.
Eva Edl, 88, whose family had fled communist-ruled Yugoslavia at the time, was one of the individuals assigned to organizing the protest in Nashville.
Edl stated to The Daily Signal in April that she had already come to terms with the prospect of spending the rest of her life behind bars as a result of her demonstrations.
Edl went on to say that the American administration is starting to seem a lot like the communist one from which her family fled.
Incredible news! Paul Vaughn does't have to go to prison! This is what our men's group (@GMRench) prayed for last night. I pray this influences the other sentences! God is good.

Malaysia’s Official Religion: Preserving Islamic Heritage in a Multicultural Society
Malaysia is a melting pot of diverse cultures, religions, and ethnicities. With a population that includes Malays, Chinese, Indians, and various indigenous groups, the country boasts a rich tapestry of traditions and beliefs. Among these diverse religious practices, Islam holds a special place as the official religion of Malaysia.
Islam was brought to Malaysia by Arab traders in the 12th century and has since become deeply ingrained in the country’s cultural fabric. Today, approximately 61.3% of Malaysians identify as Muslim, making it the predominant religion in the country. In recognition of this, Islam has been enshrined in the Malaysian constitution as the official religion, with the king serving as the guardian of Islam in the country.
Despite its official status, Malaysia is a secular state, and respect for religious diversity is enshrined in the constitution. The government guarantees freedom of religion for all citizens, and recognizes the rights of non-Muslims to practice their faiths. This commitment to religious harmony has played a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in this multicultural society.
One of the key challenges faced by Malaysia is preserving the Islamic heritage in the face of modernization and globalization. As the country continues to develop economically and socially, there is a concern that traditional Islamic values and practices may be eroded by outside influences. To address this, the Malaysian government has taken steps to promote and preserve the Islamic heritage.
One of the ways in which the government is preserving Islamic heritage is through education. Islamic studies are a mandatory part of the curriculum in Malaysian schools, and efforts are being made to promote a deeper understanding of the religion among young Malaysians. Additionally, the government has established institutions such as the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, which showcases the rich history and culture of Islam in the country.
The government also supports initiatives aimed at preserving Malaysia’s Islamic heritage, such as the restoration of historic mosques and the promotion of Islamic arts and crafts. These efforts not only serve to preserve the country’s cultural heritage but also promote a sense of national identity and pride among Malaysians.
In conclusion, Malaysia’s official religion of Islam plays a significant role in shaping the country’s cultural landscape. While the government is committed to preserving and promoting Islamic heritage, it also recognizes the importance of religious diversity and tolerance in this multicultural society. By striking a balance between tradition and modernity, Malaysia is able to celebrate its Islamic heritage while also embracing the richness of its diverse religious and cultural traditions.

Religiously Informed Policies: Evaluating the Consequences for Democracy
[ad_1]
Religion has long been a prominent force in shaping public policy and governance around the world. Many countries have constitutions or legal systems that are deeply influenced by religious principles, and there are numerous religiously affiliated political parties that play key roles in shaping laws and regulations. However, the impact of religiously informed policies on democracy is a subject of ongoing debate.
On the one hand, proponents of religiously informed policies argue that they bring a sense of morality and ethics to governance. They believe that drawing on religious teachings can help ensure that policies are aligned with universal values and principles. Additionally, they argue that religion can play a crucial role in fostering social cohesion and a sense of community, which are key components of a healthy democracy.
However, critics of religiously informed policies raise concerns about the potential for discrimination and exclusion. They argue that policies based on religious beliefs can marginalize and oppress minority groups, infringing upon their rights and freedoms. They also point to instances where religiously informed policies have been used to justify violence and repression, undermining the principles of democracy.
One key issue in evaluating the consequences of religiously informed policies for democracy is the separation of church and state. Many democracies have enshrined this principle in their constitutions, aiming to prevent the influence of religious authorities on government decisions. When religious beliefs are allowed to play a significant role in shaping policy, there is a risk that the rights and freedoms of individuals who do not adhere to those beliefs may be compromised.
Furthermore, the politicization of religion can lead to divisions and conflicts within society. Religious differences are deeply personal and can be difficult to reconcile in the public sphere. When policies are based on religious beliefs, it can exacerbate these tensions and create a climate of intolerance and animosity.
In order to navigate the complex relationship between religion and democracy, it is important for policymakers to strike a balance between respecting religious beliefs and upholding democratic principles. One approach is to ensure that religiously informed policies are subject to rigorous scrutiny and debate within a diverse and inclusive public sphere. This can help guard against the risks of discrimination and exclusion.
Moreover, it is essential to uphold the rights and freedoms of all individuals, regardless of their religious beliefs. Democracy is built on the foundation of equality and a commitment to protecting the rights of minorities. Policies that are informed by religious beliefs must not infringe upon these fundamental principles.
In conclusion, the impact of religiously informed policies on democracy is a complex and multifaceted issue. While religion can bring a sense of morality and ethics to governance, there are also risks of discrimination and exclusion. It is crucial for policymakers to carefully evaluate the consequences of religiously informed policies and ensure that they uphold democratic principles and respect the rights of all individuals. Only by striking this delicate balance can we ensure that religion plays a positive role in shaping a healthy and inclusive democracy.

New Bill Grants Schools Authority to Hide Students’ Gender from Parents
(ChristianCountry.net)—On Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a historic bill enabling schools to withhold information regarding a student’s gender identity from parents.
According to AB-1955, school districts cannot require staff members to reveal “any information related to a pupil’s sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression to any other person” without the student’s permission.
Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom remained silent over the law.
Every student in California deserves to feel safe, supported, and respected in our schools, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. That is why I supported AB 1955. pic.twitter.com/a270AIJDAM

Under the new rule, transgender adolescents will be able to identify as one gender in secret at school and as their biological gender in private, all without the knowledge of their parents. The first state with such a statute is California.
It was approved by the Senate 29–8 and the Assembly 61–16. Both houses are under Democratic control.
The bill claims that “parents and families across California understand that coming out as LGBTQ+ is an extremely personal decision and want to support their children in coming out to them on their own terms.”
“Parents and families have an important role to play in the lives of young people,” the bill’s findings say. “Studies confirm that LGBTQ+ youth thrive when they have parental support and feel safe sharing their full identities with them, but it can be harmful to force young people to share their full identities before they are ready.”
Critics of the new law assert that it sets families against teachers and violates parental rights.
The California Family Council’s president, Jonathan Keller, called Newsom’s signing of the law a “direct assault on the safety of children and the rights of their parents.”
“By allowing schools to withhold vital information from mothers and fathers, this bill undermines their fundamental role and places boys and girls in potential jeopardy,” Keller said. “Moms and dads have both a constitutional and divine mandate to guide and protect their kids, and AB 1955 egregiously violates this sacred trust.”
Republicans opposing the bill, Assemblyman Bill Essayli, claimed that Newsom’s backing “defied parents’ constitutional and God-given right to raise their children.”
“AB 1955 endangers children by excluding parents from important matters impacting their child’s health and welfare at school,” Essayli said. “Governor Newsom signing AB 1955 is both immoral and unconstitutional, and we will challenge it in court to stop the government from keeping secrets from parents.”
